This evening's centerpiece -- Mill Village: A Piedmont Rhapsody -- is North Carolina composer David Crowe's "tone poem," inspired by mills of the Piedmont, their people and stories.  His symphonic homage to the mills that built the South is multi-media -- relying not only on musical imagery but also projected images of mills and the people who made them hum.

Come along for the ride, roll down the windows, and glide down the road in a classic.

Actually, that's a relaxing journey with the CLASSICS -- the kind folks have come to expect from the Danville Concert Association for more than half a century.  But this is no sentimental nostalgia trip and the music's never "tinny" like some vintage car radio.  No, there's nothing but rich, full sound, better than stereo because every bit's LIVE -- performed, as always, for the listening pleasure of discerning DCA audiences by some of the finest musicians in the world.  It's absolutely authentic -- the thrill of real instruments and trained voices.

And the melodies, they're not just Oldies.  Some of these tunes are REALLY old -- by masters of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras like Telemann, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Mendelssohn.  There's lush string music for full orchestra (two this season), along with two chamber ensembles, both precious jewels complete with wistful woodwinds, booming brass and tinkling cymbals.  Mellifluous baritones and crystalline sopranos, all choral mastersingers, round out the season.  There's music celebrating Danville's own -- a musical portrait of the Southern mill village and its people.

It's easy enough to get there from here -- without ever leaving Danville.  Annual Danville Concert Association membership tune-ups remain affordable thanks to our many generous sponsors, grantors and patrons.  Then, simply get to the concert hall on time and leave the rest (of the driving) to us.
